This group is primarily a talking therapeutic support group for those aged 11-18. It’s spilt into two sessions; 4-5pm for 11-13s and 5-6pm for 14-18s. Those who attend the group have a say in how the group is run as it is important they get the most out of it. We start the sessions checking in on our mood, individuals chose whether that’s current mood or across the week. Mood cards are used to help members get in touch with what is going on inside them. We then move on to an activity based on a topic around mental health, which changes each week. The activity will include CBT based handouts and strategies for coping with the topic of the week, ‘anxiety’, ‘exam stress’, and ‘negative thoughts’ are some examples of topics. Following this we do a 5-10 minute meditation session to help learn how to wind down, focus the mind and get into a calm state. The session ends with a check out and a chat about the week ahead and thinking about how to put the strategies they have learnt this week into practice.
