Dorset Mind are offering an 6 week programme of support to 9-13 year olds who are experiencing mild to moderate emotional problems and experiencing low attendance.
- Develop coping skills
- Build resilience
- Become more aware of thoughts, feelings and behaviours
- Understand the importance of the mind-body relationship
- Improve school attendance and work towards positive engagement with school
Please note, this is an early intervention and prevention service.
Provided that Parental consent is given referrals are accepted from:
- Any other professionals (social worker, support worker, teacher, counsellor, etc.)

Who are we?
We are a group of professionals and volunteers from Dorset Mind who are supporting emotional health and wellbeing through this 6 week programme. The sessions are fun and informal and will allow you to explore issues in a supportive, non judgemental space. There will be no more than 12 young people in the group at one time. You will be given a choice of activities and will be involved in the development of the programme. We are here to listen and offer support as you build new emotional skills and connect with others, helping you on your journey towards living life mentally healthy.
What can you expect from the Connected Minds group?
The 2 hour group begins with a welcome and check in with time to talk, share and be mindful. The course is based on learning through experience so there will be a variety of activities to stimulate discussion and you’ll be encouraged to keep a journal throughout. There will be time to talk and learn from each other and you will not be forced to do anything you are uncomfortable with doing. We take it at your own pace and you can participate as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.
