Abigail Hole – Marketing Co-ordinator

Where do you live?

I live in Christchurch, Dorset.

What is your role within Dorset Mind Your Head?

I am the Marketing Co-ordinator for Children and Young People Services

What led you to Dorset Mind?

I wanted to continue working within a non-profit organization. I was happy to find an opportunity in my local community. Having accessed mental health support myself, I understand the importance of services provided by Dorset Mind. I wanted to offer my creativity and enthusiasm for marketing to reach more young people via. The power of social media.

What are your interests outside of work?

I love climbing, I am a club alumni (they refer to us as olds) within the University of Southampton climbing group. It has helped me since graduating to stay connected and continue to climb with a friendly group of people. Other interests include colouring in the evenings, visiting National Trust places, going for dog walks with my cocker spaniel Wilf and watching Netflix.

What is your story in relation to mental health?

My mental health journey started when I was in Yr6, I had severe social anxiety which had a massive impact on my mental health, wellbeing and my relationship with friends and family. At university, I accessed CBT therapy which played an important role in my journey to recovery in being able to identify early warning signs and recognise behaviours and triggers for my mental health. I find myself now having more conversations with friends about mental health and have met other young people who have been able to relate to my experiences. It is a reassurance to know I am not alone, and that people feel able to discuss mental health more openly.

If you could give someone a piece of advice, what would it be?

Don’t be scared to rest and just stop. You can’t move forwards if you have an empty fuel-tank. My advice would be to make sure you communicate with someone, ask for support.

What is one self-care tip that you have found helpful?

Make plans with yourself or others. I like a plan of action to keep me going so I have something to look forward to.
