Where do you live?
I am from Bournemouth but during term time I live in Exeter.
What are you studying?
I am studying Psychology at the University of Exeter
What are your interests inside and out of studying?
Outside of studying, I am passionate about eco-living to help out our wonderful planet. I teach myself guitar and I also love all things self-care: skincare, yoga, meditation… you name it, I’m all for it.
What are your hopes and ambitions for the future?
I hope to work in the field of neuropsychology or forensic psychology, I have not yet decided which.
What is your story in relation to mental health?
Throughout secondary school, sixth form and University, I’ve seen the impact that academia can have on young people’s mental health, including my own. This inspired me to join on organisation that gave me the platform to speak out about young people’s mental wellbeing and make a difference to the systems in place to aid young people.
If you could give someone a piece of advice, what would it be?
What has worked best for me, is making sure that your mental wellbeing is always your top priority, as this is what will actually allow you to reach your goals, whatever they may be.
What is one self-care tip that you have found helpful?
Meditation has helped my anxiety substantially – I recommend Headspace’s Basic Course (which is free by the way) to get yourself started. Once you know the basics, you’ll find it easier to take a breather when you need it.
