Where do you live?
I live in Poole, Dorset.
What is your role within Dorset Mind Your Head?
I am the Administration Assistant for the CYP Team
What led you to Dorset Mind?
As a mum of 2 young children, I know the importance of helping and supporting young people to live mentally healthy lives and so I was aware of the amazing work that DMYH and Dorset Mind do locally. When I saw the Admin Assistant role advertised on their social media, I jumped at the chance to use my skills and experience in a way that could also contribute to helping raise awareness.
What are your interests outside of work?
I love spending time with my husband and our 2 daughters. We are outside as much as we can be and take full advantage of the beautiful coast and countryside we live so close to. My other interests including yoga, paddle boarding, going to live music events, catching up with friends over a big cup of tea and slice of cake, or being curled up reading a book on the sofa.
What is your story in relation to mental health?
I have lived with anxiety throughout my life, but it took me well into my adult years to understand that this was the case or even be able to acknowledge it. I want to help in any way that I can in letting children and young people know that they are not alone, that they can ask for support and that it’s ok to speak up about how they are feeling. I believe that every child (and adult!) should feel there is someone they can reach out to and be heard.
If you could give someone a piece of advice, what would it be?
Be the person you needed when you were younger.
What is one self-care tip that you have found helpful?
Getting outside! Sea air has always helped me and I’m very fortunate to have an abundance of it minutes from my doorstep, but any fresh air will do! Just getting outside – be it a walk, a run, riding a bike, sitting in the park – can make a big difference
